10 Tips For Actors Auditioning For A Role

One of the most difficult parts of acting is the audition process. This is a list I put together of some things to keep in mind once you've booked an audition.

1. Get to the audition early. If possible go to the location of the audition the day before. IF you have that much notice. Especially if you are in Los Angeles traffic can be CRAZY so it's important to know where the casting director's office is located.

2. Make sure you get your lines in advance if you have any. Give yourself as much time to practice as possible.

3. Always have your headshot and resume with you. You should keep a box of these in your car wherever you go. You never know who you might meet.

4. Don't let the competition get to you.

5. Dress for the role. Don't overdo it, but dressing the part can really help the casting director or director visualize you in the role.

6. Write Legibly. The casting director sees TONS of people so make sure your name is easy to read on the sign in sheet.

7. Keep yourself in a good mood.

8. Concentrate.

9. Remember to warm up vocally and physically. Don't be afraid to step outside the casting office or go into the bathroom for a few minutes to do this.

10. Be nice to your competition. You never know who you may end up helping you in the future. I've personally met people in audition rooms that I'm still friends with today. Many of them have helped me gain other opportunities.
